Our Research Impact

The Center for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR) at George Mason University is committed to conducting research on bacteria and viruses with major medical and societal significance. The center’s focus is on gaining a deeper understanding of these infectious diseases through rigorous scientific research and developing improved interventions such as vaccines and therapeutics.

Research areas that CIDR members are actively studying include viruses like HIV and SARS-CoV-2, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, biothreat agents, and extracellular vesicles, as well as the development of vaccines and therapeutics such as antimicrobial peptides.

By providing a deeper scientific understanding and effective countermeasures for the infectious diseases, the center aims to address these major global health concerns.
